This gallery takes its name from the famous bicycle race between the two cities, inextricably linked as they have been since King George IV built an extravagant palace in Brighton during the 19th century to serve as a decadent playground-by-the-sea for him and his courtage. Since then, London and Brighton have continued to serve as ego and alter-ego, conscience and subconscience for hordes of Londoners in search of fresh sea air and an escape from the confines of urban life, both physical and psychic. Another subtext is the photographer's own migration from London to Brighton in 2007 after 20 years of living in the capital, and the attendant adjustments and exultation that has involved.
